HOW MANY CALORIES SHOULD YOU BURN IN A DAY TO LOSE WEIGHT?
If your goal is to lose weight, you’ll be able to lose weight faster if you eat fewer calories than normal plus exercise to burn even more calories.
If you want to lose weight, you should aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week, and up to 300 minutes per week for even faster results.
3500 calories equals 1 pound of fat, so it’s estimated that you’ll need to burn about 3500 calories or so to lose one pound. You can get to this calorie deficit through cutting calories and burning extra calories- nutrition and exercise.
By eating about 500 calories less per day and burning a few hundred more, you could realistically lose 1-2 pounds or more per week.
Depending on the type of exercise you are doing, you should aim to burn at least a few hundred calories per day during exercise. Find other ways to stay active throughout the day to burn calories like taking the stairs, doing housework, and going on a walk.
DOES CARDIO HELP BURN BELLY FAT?
Depending on the intensity, cardio workouts can help you burn 100-200 calories every 10 minutes. Cardio workouts are effective to burn calories fast, which will help you to lose belly fat.
Unfortunately, you can’t really target one area of your body to lose fat. Only a plastic surgeon can “spot treat” fat. If you want to lose belly fat you’ll need to incorporate a variety of exercise, including cardio, to help you burn calories and gain strength and definition.
And don’t forget proper nutrition. With the right diet and appropriate exercise, you’ll lose fat all over you body, including belly fat.

IS IT OKAY TO DO CARDIO EVERYDAY?
Even if you are trying to lose weight, you don’t need to do cardio everyday, but exercise brings great health benefits and it is important to regularly include cardio. That could mean every single day or just 2-3 times per week, whatever best fits your schedule and your workout plan.
The important part is that you are being active and burning calories. You can do this with many types of exercise, and not just cardio alone. Aim for about 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week, which could be divided up daily or over just a few days. Choose what best works for you and make a plan that you can stick to.
If you like to do cardio exercises everyday, that’s great. You can do cardio everyday as long as you mix it up with different types of cardio exercises and include other types of workouts, such as strength training, to get a variety of exercise and health benefits.
Now on to the workout. You’ll need some sliders, weights, and a chair. Press play and enjoy getting sweaty while burning 700 calories!

Just curious how the “700” calories was calculated or how any of the calorie burn numbers are generated for the workouts on here. I did this workout and burned way less. I know each person’s burn is based on body type and fitness level. I was just curious.
Thanks,

Hi Jo Dawn,
You asked a great question and then (partially) answered it! Calorie burn is dependent on metabolism (how hard your cells work) which is dependent on height, weight, age, sex, and fitness level. If you’re a younger, relatively fit female you will actually burn less calories doing this than an older, relatively sedentary female. The calorie burn in this workout AVERAGES about 700 calories – some will burn a lot more and some a lot less. If you’re looking for a little more specific calculation, here’s a website I like where you can figure it out: https://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/cbc
Thanks again for the question and for following Tone-and-Tighten.com!
