ARE SWEET POTATOES HEALTHY?
Many people wonder if sweet potatoes are a healthy choice when they are on a diet and trying to eat less carbs. The answer is YES, sweet potatoes are healthy. They not only taste great, but they provide some amazing health benefits because they contain antioxidants, anti-inflammatory nutrients, and help regulate blood sugar.
Sweet potatoes are nutrient-rich and have 180 calories per cup. Sweet potatoes are high in Vitamin A (in the form of beta-carotene) and Vitamin C, and they are a good source of dietary fiber, potassium, phosphorus, and some important B vitamins.
You may have heard that bananas have a lot of potassium, but sweet potatoes actually have more potassium per serving than bananas. A potassium rich diet may help reduce blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke, as well as many other impressive health benefits.
Some people believe that sweet potatoes are not good for you because they are too starchy. While sweet potatoes are a starchy root vegetable, the high amount of dietary fiber and other phytonutrients helps to control the pace of digestion to make them a great food for blood sugar regulation.
Make sweet potatoes part of your regular diet for a nutrient-rich meal. You can eat them baked, as sweet potato toast, in protein bowls, as sweet potato noodles, or even put them in a burrito with black beans.
IS GROUND TURKEY HEALTHIER THAN GROUND BEEF?
The debate is ongoing between ground turkey and beef, which one is healthier? Since the overall health of the american society is concerning, more and more people are looking for healthier options in everyday recipes. Switching over to ground turkey in recipes such as meatballs, tacos, lasagana, burgers, etc. is a popular healthier swap.
Common knowledge says that ground turkey is leaner than beef, and therefore, healthier. You can also buy lean ground beef that is comparable to ground turkey.
So, which one is it? The amount of calories between lean ground beef and lean ground turkey (93% lean) is relatively the same, and amount of protein is the same. The difference is in saturated fat, the unhealthy fat. Lean ground turkey has less saturated fat than lean ground beef, making it a better choice.
You’ll still want to be careful when choosing ground turkey, look at the nutrition facts to see how it is comparable to beef, and get the leanest you can find (80% or higher). If ground turkey isn’t your thing, lean ground beef is still a really good option.
I’ve heard people complain that ground turkey is flavorless compared to ground beef. Keep experimenting, if you use the right seasonings and cooking methods, you can get ground turkey to taste even better than beef.
Experiment in sauces, soups, casseroles, and more. Ground turkey is pretty much always a comparable tasty swap in ground beef recipes.
Some ground turkey recipes will work for you, but you might find that you like ground beef more in certain dishes. Maybe you won’t always choose to use ground turkey, but if you use it a little more often than you used to, then that is a great healthy swap.
