If you are looking for PERFECT hard boiled or soft boiled eggs in the Instant Pot, here are the instructions you need! Step-by-step instructions included below.
I recently purchased my first Instant Pot (I got this one) and I have been loving it!
Cooking healthy has never been easier!
My newest obsession: hard-boiled eggs in the instant pot!
The eggs turn out PERFECT every time and are ready in a matter of minutes. Here is everything you need to know about making these in the Instant Pot!
Watch how I make the eggs (and 2 other healthy side dishes) here:
How long does it take to make hard boiled eggs in the instant pot?
On a manual setting, it only takes 5 minutes to cook the eggs.
Add in another 5-10 minutes for the Instant Pot to pressurize and then a 5 minute natural release which brings your total time to 15 minutes. However, that is 15 minutes of HANDS-OFF work . . . which makes your life easy!
How long does it take to make soft boiled eggs in the instant pot?
On a manual setting, it will only take 3 minutes to cook soft boiled eggs. Then follow the same directions as above: 5 minute natural release and 5-10 minutes for the pot to pressurize.
What accessories do you need for your Instant Pot to boil eggs?
To hard boil eggs, I just use the trivet that came with my Instant Pot.
Some people also prefer to use a steamer basket or an egg rack, but it is not necessary. The trivet that came with your Instant Pot is perfect. You just want to make sure that your eggs are not touching the bottom of your pot.
How much liquid is needed in the Instant Pot?
To make hard-boiled eggs, you are only going to need 1 cup of water.
How many eggs can you do in the Instant Pot at a time?
For this recipe, I am cooking 4 eggs. You could easily fit 6-7 eggs using the trivet. If you use a stacked egg rack, you can cook 12-14 eggs at once.
Why a cold water bath at the end of cook time?
To make the perfect hard boiled eggs, you will want to run them under cold water or in a bowl of ice as soon as they are done cooking.
This cold water bath will stop the cooking process immediately and prevent that green/gray ring that you sometimes see around the yolk of hard boiled eggs.
I highly recommend using tongs to remove the hot eggs from the Instant Pot into the cold water bath because they will be very hot!
How long will hard boiled eggs last?
The cooked eggs will last up to 1 week in the fridge. They make a great snack or you can even use them to make my Greek Yogurt Deviled Eggs or Greek Yogurt Egg Salad.
How to cook eggs in the Instant Pot:
- Place your trivet in the bottom of the slow cooker.
- Pour in 1 cup of water.
- Place 4 eggs on the trivet. Put the lid on the Instant Pot and close and lock the lid.
- Press the manual button (or pressure cook button) and adjust the time to 5 minutes. The Instant Pot will start to pressurize (it will take 5-10 minutes for it to come to pressure) and then will start to count down from 5 as soon as it starts cooking them.
- When they are finished cooking, let them do a natural release for 5 minutes (which basically means don’t touch it or do anything for 5 minutes).
- After 5 minutes, move the pressure release valve (the knob on top) over to “venting” and let out the rest of the pressure. Once the pin has dropped, open your pot.
- Immediately put the eggs in a bowl of cold water or a bowl of ice and water. Let them sit in the water for 5 minutes.
- Peel the eggs and enjoy!
