Increase your strength training results with cardio.
I’m a big fan of strength training. I love the way your muscles feel tight and strong after working them out. I’m a fan of cardio training. I love the way your body feel rejuvenated and alive after a good run or cardio workout. So why not combine the two of them?! Today’s workout features some of my favorite total-body dumbbell strength training exercises interspersed with some cardio as well. Tone up and slim down – all in one workout!
I’ve got this workout broken down into three strength circuits. You’ll perform 3 sets of the exercises in Circuit #1 and then move on to your first piece of cardio equipment. Then you’ll perform Circuit #2 for 3 sets and move on to the second cardio section. Repeat the same scenario for the third. Shoot for about 20 minutes per section for an hour-long gym total-body burner! (Short on time? Do two or even one circuit!)
Warm Up: Elliptical trainer at comfortable speed x8 minutes
Strength Circuit #1
Dumbbell Single-leg Deadlifts
10 reps each leg
Repeated three times
Cardio #1
Row Machine – 5 minutes comfortable and 5 minutes slightly more than comfortable
Strength Circuit #2
Bent Over Row
10 reps each arm
Repeated three times
Cardio #2
Treadmill – Jog 5 minutes comfortable and 5 minutes .5 mph faster than comfortable
Strength Circuit #3
Dumbbell Side Lunges
10 reps each leg
Overhead Triceps Press
10 reps
Repeated three times
Cardio #3
Spin Bike – LAST ONE!! You got this! 5 minutes comfortable and 5 minutes 1 mph faster than comfortable
