EFFECTS OF MUSIC DURING WORKOUTS

Music has been shown to improve the performance of certain tasks and has work-enhancing effects. In many research studies, music has been associated with improvements in exercise.

Finding the perfect style of music with the right tempo, rhythm, and volume can really enhance a workout. Your tunes can help you delay feelings of fatigue and improve your energy and mood.

But you’ve seen (and heard) that guy at the gym with extremely loud music blasting out of his headphones. Watch your use of loud music, you don’t want to damage your hearing during your workout.

Sometimes you need to give your full attention to learning a new exercise and technique, and then it is recommended to focus on your physical limits and avoid the distraction of music.

WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC IS BEST FOR EXERCISE?

Music with a strong beat helps people to focus and push harder through a tough workout. You can find music that fits this description whether your chosen genre is pop, rap, country, rock, indie, classical, or even fast jazz.

The key to finding a quality playlist is looking for songs with fast enough bpm, or beats per minute. A higher bpm equals a faster song.

Music with 120-140 bpm has been researched to be best and the most motivating during exercise. You can use apps and look up the bpm of songs you love to see where your ideal level might be.

Once you’ve worked out hard, use some slower music for a cool down and stretching session.

The right music can get you pumped up and ready to work harder, longer, and stronger during a workout. Experiment with different songs and see what type works best for you.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO LISTEN TO MUSIC WHILE WORKING OUT?

The best way to listen to music during exercise is to get a device and headphones that won’t get in your way while you’re weight lifting, running, stretching, etc.

Some of my go-to devices for streaming my music while working out include…

Apple Air Pods – hands down my absolute favorite headphones out there. Small, portable, light weight, and (most importantly) stay in place while performing even higher-intensity activities like burpees and box jumps. Pick yours up on Amazon right here: https://amzn.to/2rzB86u

Arm band – investing in a quality place to carry your device is always a good idea. I can’t tell you how many phones I’ve heard get ruined from sweat from ladies working out with their phone in the bra or tucked inside their pants. These arm bands are super cheap, waterproof, hold your phone out of the way, and are a great idea for working out. Get yours here on Amazon: https://amzn.to/2EhQq7y

Bluetooth speaker – if your workouts typically take place at home, maybe you prefer the freedom of a bluetooth speaker, instead. These are a great option to fill your home gym with sound. They’re great quality and come in a variety of styles, sizes, and prices. Check yours out today right here: https://amzn.to/2UGzgGa

Alright – now that we’re all equipped let’s get into the music!
As always, I prefer the clean version of these songs as opposed to the explicit. All the links and the Spotify playlist you’ll find below are (at least should be) the edited versions of these songs.
