If you feel anything like I do, your gym time is precious. You only get it a couple of times a week so when it’s your time to get there you want to maximize every second of it. This is the exact situation I found myself in last week! I had about an hour and wanted to give myself a good, total-body workout. In all humility, I came up with a pretty good one! I’m sharing it with you today as the newest “What I Worked Wednesday” gym workout – hope you guys are ready for this one!
You guys know me by now – I’m all about circuit training and supersets to maximize my time in the gym. Basically you perform alternating exercises for different muscle groups as quickly as you can with minimal rest periods between sets (your “rest” for group A happens while you’re doing the exercise for group B). Not clear what I mean? It soon will be…
The Workout
Warm Up
I spent 5 minutes going hard (>9 mph speed) on the elliptical and 5 mintues going hard (>200 meters/minute) on the row machine. You should be sweating by the time this is over!
Circuit 1
Bench Press
10 reps and then on to Thrusters
Thrusters
10 reps and then back to the Bench Press
Repeated 4 times and then on to Circuit 2
Circuit 2
Pull-Ups
(Assisted or Lat Pull Downs if needed)
10 reps and then on to Renegade Rows
Renegade Rows
10 reps and then back to Pull-Ups
Repeated 4 times and then on to Circuit 3
Circuit 3
Weighted Lunges
(Barbell on your shoulders or dumbbells hanging to your sides)
10 reps on each leg and then on to Box Jumps
Box Jumps
20 times and then back to Lunges
Cool down on the spin bike for 5-10 minutes
Totally nailed it! 3 amazing circuits for one amazing hour of gym-time heroics!
