As we move into the middle of July, things are really starting to heat up out there! The days are long, the sun is hot, and I can hear the beach calling my name! If you’re anything like me, you also want to feel comfortable if not confident when you do go to the beach. That’s exactly where this workout series comes in! The “Summer Slim Down” is in full effect!
Welcome to week five of our six week “Summer Slim Down” series! As we start to enter the homestretch we are going to take things to the next level with these workouts. In this series you get one day of amazing cardio to lose excess pounds and whittle away those areas that may need a little trimming. You also get one strength-training routine to firm and tighten key areas that will surely get you noticed this year on the beach! Let’s do it!
Below are two workouts – cardio (day one) and strength (day two). Alternate between days for three cycles – 6 workouts total this week.
Cardio (Day One)
Running Interval – either outside or on the treadmill
First half-mile
Comfortable jog pace
Second half-mile
40-step run at 80% of sprint pace (count every left footfall as 1,2,3, etc up to 20)
40-step comfortable jog pace
Repeat run – jog – run – jog intervals until you’ve completed the 2nd half mile
Here’s the clincher
Your second half-mile has to be faster than your first. If you were 5 minutes for the first half-mile you have to be under 5 minutes for the second.
Repeat as many times as your time/distance allows. Trust me, by the third mile you’re pretty gassed with this one!

Strength (Day Two)
Jump Squats
10 reps
Bicycle Crunches
10 touches to each knee
Burpees
10 reps
Side Plank Hip Lift
10 reps each side
Push Up
10 reps
Rear Plank
30-second hold
Repeat this whole circuit 3 times for your Summer Slimming Shred!
