Take your core work to new levels by adding dumbbells to the routine!
If you’re anything like me, when you think dumbbells you think of exercises specifically for the extremities (arms and legs). You think biceps curls and military press and lunges, etc. But did you also know that you can get in an amazing core workout with dumbbells, also? Today I’m sharing my favorite core workout with resistance that is guaranteed to shred your midsection. Ready or not, six-pack… we’re coming for you right now!
Need some dumbbells? Here’s a set just like the ones I have at home. I love that they’re small and don’t take up much space but also that they’re so incredibly versatile. There’s so much you can do with them because you have so many different weights available! Check them out on Amazon.
The Workout
Russian Twist
Great for the anterior wall and the obliques; do it with your feet elevated to kick on the lower abs. (Dumbbell, Medicine Ball, or Kettle Bell)
10 touches to each side
Dumbbell crunch
Rest the dumbbell on your chest or for an added challenge – raise the dumbbell straight up towards the ceiling with your arms extended. Hold in this position during the course of the lift. (Dumbbell, Medicine Ball, or Kettle Bell)
10 reps
Side Bend
Standing with the dumbbell in the left hand; lean as far as you can to the right and then as far as you can to the left
10 reps to each side – Note only ONE dumbbell on this one! (Dumbbell or Kettle Bell)
10 reps on each side
Dumbbell Swing
Don’t ever forget about strengthening your back as part of your core! Some dumbbell swings are great for the lower back, butt, and legs! (Dumbbell or Kettle Bell)
15 reps
Wood Chop
Start with weight high and on one side and finish with it low and on the other. Try to keep you lower back straight throughout the motion. (Dumbbell, Medicine Ball, or Kettle Bell)
10 on each side
Repeat the whole series three times for a killer core workout with dumbbells!
