“I’m just too tired.”
“But that chocolate cake looks so amazing.”
“I had a really good work out earlier this week, so it doesn’t matter if I skip today.”
“I could really use an extra 45 minutes of sleep.”
There will always be excuses. Google dictionary defines excuse as “a reason or explanation put forward to defend or justify a fault or offense.” I have always thought of it as an easy way out of something more difficult. Think about it – rarely do we ever make excuses for things that are easy. Most of the excuses that we make our for things that are difficult; things that take us away from the comfortable, the easy, and the normal. We make excuses to stay in our comfort zone because it’s just that – comfortable. Unfortunately, there’s one thing that rarely resides in our comfort zone – results. It’s the uncomfortable, the difficult, and the extraordinary things that we do that cause the biggest change. If you really want to start seeing results you must begin by stopping all excuses. You must eliminate “just this once” and “today it won’t matter if I…” from your vocabulary. You have to start to think differently in order to see different results.
Instead of making excuses, start making a plan. Before you go to dinner, decide to skip dessert or seek out a healthy option. Before you go to bed at night resolve not to push the snooze button and go for that run in the morning. Instead of sitting in front of the couch after dinner take your kids outside and play in the backyard or go for a walk. Healthy lifestyles do not come as easily as the excuses to avoid them. But then again, ostentatious results never came easily, either. The choice is yours.
