Dare to be great today.
How many of us fall into this category? Thinking that “greatness” is reserved only for the elitists, the superstars, and the champions. We see people in the gym, on TV, or even at work/school and we think to ourselves – “no matter how hard I try I will never be able to look like ____ .” These people have attained “greatness” – it was reserved for them and now that they have it I have no chance of getting there myself. These thoughts can be damaging, harmful, and completely derail an otherwise solid self-improvement plan.
So what do we do about it? How do we overcome this comparison and self-doubt?
The answer: Find Your Greatness
Click below to find out how.
If you’ve ever been guilty of these thoughts or feelings, the very first thing we need to do is change your definition of what greatness is. I have found the easiest way to do that is to change your focus from RESULTS to ACTIONS. Here are two examples:
Example One: “To be great I need to have amazing leg muscle definition. _____ has amazing leg definition. I’m frustrated that my legs don’t look like _____’s and I don’t know if they will ever get that way.”
Again, the focus here is on the outcome. It’s looking at the end result, getting frustrated in your apparent lack of progress, and ultimately giving up the plan altogether. With me so far? Good…
Example Two: “I want amazing leg definition. To be great this week I’m going to do a leg workout 3 days this week and decrease my calories from 2000 to 1800 per day.”
Notice how now we’ve shifted focus to the process. No longer are we focusing on having amazing leg definition so much as our focus is on the path we take to get there. Just as it says in today’s fitness motivation – “this is not about lowering expectations; it’s about raising them for every last one of us.” We’re not trying to downplay anyone’s hard work and dedication. We’re certainly not downplaying the path they took to get there. What we’re doing is making the path attainable for each and every one of us.
Remember, greatness is wherever someone is trying to find it. So dare to be great today.
