No-Bake Cookie Protein Bars on Tone-and-Tighten

I love treats.
And I personally believe that with a balanced diet, you can still have a treat every once in a while – moderation in all things, right?

These little protein bars are my saving grace! Loaded with protein, they keep me feeling full throughout the day, especially when I hit that 3 pm wall and want something sweet.

They only require 5 ingredients – one of them being protein powder. This is the protein powder that I use:

There are many kinds out there, but I like the flavor of this one the best.
I usually make a big batch of these, then cut them up and stick them in the freezer. When I am needing a snack, I just pull out a bar and I am good to go!

Homemade No-Bake Cookie Protein Bars
Recipe type: Snack
Prep time:  10 mins
Total time:  10 mins
Serves: 20

These homemade protein bars taste exactly like a no-bake cookie without any of the added sugar. All the protein in them leaves you feeling full for much longer than any cookie could.
Ingredients
  • 1½ cups oatmeal
  • 1¼ cups natural peanut butter
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 cup + 2 tablespoons chocolate protein powder
  • 2 tablespoons wheat germ (I found this on the flour and baking aisle at my grocery store)
Instructions
  1. In a large bowl, mix all ingredients together (I used a large wooden spoon, but be aware that the dough will be thick!). Press the dough into a 9x13" baking pan using your hands.
  2. Cut into 2x2" bars and enjoy!
  3. (If your bars are too soft, stick them into the fridge to set-up for a couple of minutes.)
Notes
As mentioned before, I like to cut these into bars and then stick them in my freezer, then pull them out as needed. They are the perfect healthy snack!

What kind of protein powder do you like best for the protein bars?

Hi Kenna! The thing about protein is you need to find one high in protein but low in everything else. A lot of times they’ll load them with protein, but add a ton of fat and calories as well. Whichever one you can find that A) has a lot of protein, B) doesn’t have a lot of “fillers” and C) fits your budget is the one for you! This is the one we buy: http://www.amazon.com/Six-Star-Nutrition-Protein-Chocolate/dp/B002UNEGBE/ref=as_sl_pc_ss_til?tag=toneandtigh-20&linkCode=w01&linkId=DIEHNWPAMKVLJ6BJ&creativeASIN=B002UNEGBE
      Hope that helps!
      Jared
