Father’s Day is coming!!

Ah – Father’s Day. A day to celebrate that special guy in your life with another beautiful tie and 6-pack of dress socks. Because nothing says “I love you, honey” and “thanks dad” like a nice woven cotton and argyle pattern…

GIVE YOUR DAD/HUSBAND SOMETHING HE’LL LOVE THIS YEAR!!!

Trust me as a father myself – while we’re incredibly grateful for the socks, underwear, and ties… we would MUCH rather have gadgets, gizmos, and toys! If you need a little further insight as to what your father/husband really wants this year for Father’s Day you’ve come to the right place! Below I’m sharing my list of 25 great gift ideas that are sure to knock dad’s socks off this year (then he’ll need some new ones and the socks will be justified!)! Everything for the “healthy dad” in your life; check it out below…

1. Polar Loop Activity Monitor

I’m crazy about what activity trackers/monitors are doing these days! The “Loop” from Polar includes heart rate, activity monitor, steps, calories, tells time and syncs wirelessly via bluetooth with your computer! This one had better be on your list!

2. Sport Armband for iPhone/iPod touch
Great armband case for your iPhone/iPod 5! Made of strong silicone with all the buttons completely accessible. I like this one by Mediabridge because you can actually take off the armband and use it as a case for your phone!

3. Beats Headphones Earbuds
While we’re on music… best earbuds for the price!!! I also love the over-the-ear style to keep them in place while exercising!

4. iTunes /Android gift card
I think that often times the gift card to iTunes/Android goes under appreciated. If you’re anything like me, you often times associate these gift cards with purchasing music only. However, that is far from the case anymore. Let dad download the premium versions of his favorite health and fitness applications to track everything from his cycling route to his diet.

5. Golf balls
Now… to all you ladies out there I am going to you in on one little secret that every husband/father wished his wife/children new about: not all golf balls are created equally! This is one product that defines the saying “you get what you pay for”! Just because he plays golf doesn’t mean that he’s necessarily thrilled with the 12 pack of Top Flight balls you gave him! To really floor him this year my advice would be as follows: go to his golf bag and see what brand of ball he usually plays. My go-to is Titleist ProV1. This ball is kind of expensive; I never buy them for myself. However, when I receive them as a gift I am completely ecstatic!

6. Foam Roller
A must-have for any fitness enthusiast – probably the most-used item in my physical therapy gym! Not a day goes by that I don’t use the phrase… “let’s go roll it out”!

7. Sports jersey
If dad is sports fan, trust me – nothing will be greater than a sports jersey of his favorite team! Keep in mind, these can get fairly pricey for the authentic replica jerseys, however with a little work on the Internet you can find some high-quality jerseys at a very reasonable price. My teams include the Atlanta Braves, San Francisco 49ers, and the Utah Jazz

8. Rip:60 suspension gym
My favorite at home suspension gym! These things are so incredibly versatile with literally dozens of exercises that you can perform. Click here to be taken to a post about 10 of my favorite suspension gym exercises as well as to learn a little bit more about the awesome rip:60.

9. Camelbak Hydration Pack
Mine goes with me EVERYWHERE! Mountain biking, skiing, trail running, hiking, etc… best hydration system available! Many options are available on this one – mine is the MULE (pictured) because I wanted a little bigger pockets for a little more storage room for snacks/food for day trips, skiing, and biking, as well as storing keys, cell phone, wallet, etc.

10. Perfect Push-Up
Great way to enhance your home push-up routine. Rotating handles improve shoulder mechanics throughout the push-up motion.

11. TomTom Runner GPS Watch
A MUST for any running/cycling enthusiast. Tracks anything and everything you need to know about where you went and how you did it. Distance, speed, elevation change… this bad boy tracks it all! Encourage dad to take his results to the next level!

12. P90X3 DVD Series
Tony Horton’s original HIIT style workouts but series 3 workouts are all 30 minutes or less! If you haven’t seen this you have to check it out! Guaranteed to get you shredded in no time… well… 90 days, anyway! This is, hands down, one of my favorite workout series on DVD today.

13. Workout Apparel by Under Armour
You can never have enough work-out shirts – I love anything Under Armour!

14. BlenderBottle with Blenderball
Help dad get his supplement on! This is easily my favorite shake-blender for protein shakes. There’s nothing worse than a clumpy protein shake; the blenderball does a great job incorporating everything in the drink.

15. Perfect Fitness Ab Carver Pro
I love anything “ab-wheel”… this Ab Carver is a great one! Awesome way to work your whole body – arms, shoulders, chest, and especially abs!

16. Bowflex Adjustable Dumbbell
A whole dumbbell rack without all the space. Select your weight (5-52.5 pounds) and you’re good to go! An excellent way to give dad a lot of resistance without taking up a lot of space. It is important to mention, however, it’s not recommended that you drop these bad boys. Still – great for most dumbbell exercises!

17. Kettle bell

Kettle bells are such an amazing piece of workout equipment.  It’s incredible the number of exercises you can perform with only one wait! If you’re looking for a an inexpensive, efficient way to build dad home gym then look no further than the kettle bell. (Click here for a great total-body kettle bell workout). Most of my personal kettle bell workouts use 30-50 pounds.

18. Irongym Total Body Workout Bar
Best pull-up bar out there (well, next to the one I put in my basement, of course). I love this one because it works on any doorframe without any screwing/mounting necessary; your body weight holds it in place. Irongym promotes this one as a “Total Body Workout Bar” because you can do dips and push-ups as well as pull ups.

19. Mio Alpha Strapless Heart Rate Monitor
The best watch-style heart rate monitor right now. No chest straps and a great way to monitor your intensity during your workout. Most of these bad boys include watches and calorie counters as well.

20. Insanity DVD Set
The next level in HIIT – an at-home fitness DVD must!

21. Altra Running Shoes
A local Utah running company, and about the best running shoes that I’ve found!!! Low-profile with a minimal drop and huge toe box allowing for improved running style. Barefoot in your shoes!

22. Bosu Ball
Squats, lunges, push-ups, balance… any exercise can be enhanced with a Bosu ball. Another one of my favorite go-to’s in the PT clinic. Looking to take all your bodyweight exercises to the next level? The Bosu ball is a must!

23. Exercise Gloves
Protect your hands no matter what the activity. I like the finger-less models but there are tons of different styles available!

24. Weight Lifting Belt
A must have for squatting, snatching, cleaning, etc. As a personal preference I like the leather ones with the buckles vs the synthetic ones with the velcro. Protect your back with these awesome lifting belts!

25. Fitbit Flex Activity Monitor
One of the most indiscrete, low-profile activity monitors on the market; perfect for the dad who likes to keep things simple. Track your steps, sleep, calories burned, and even exercise intensity! Syncs wirelessly via bluetooth to give you up-to-the-minute updates on your activity everyday!

Did I leave anything off my list? What are you getting dad this year to help him stay in shape?
