Since starting Tone and Tighten approximately one year ago, I have been extremely lucky to be a part of some amazing giveaways here on the website. While most of these of been a lot of fun to be a part of, few you have ever been as special to me as this giveaway that starts right now!

Well today Tone and Tighten is making that dream a reality! I have teamed up with five other exceptional blogs to giveaway one full week at the beautiful Fitness Ridge resort in Saint George, Utah! You’ll enjoy one full week of incredible hikes, delectable cuisine, trainer-guided workout sessions, and comprehensive education about diet, nutrition, exercise, and self image. A few weeks ago, myself and the other bloggers involved with this giveaway got to spend a full week at the amazing Fitness Ridge resort. As a more formal introduction to this special place and to get you totally stoked on this giveaway I wanted to share with all of you some of the highlights from my week:
Morning hikes: Probably one of my favorite things that we did down there! I have always loved hiking/camping and being in the mountains, however these hikes took things to a whole new level! Snow Canyon is a mere 10 minute drive away from the resort. In Snow Canyon, there are over a dozen different hikes that you can go on depending on your experience and fitness level. From paved trails with varying inclines to scaling to the tops of majestic mountain peaks, there truly is something for everyone! Every day is a different hike; every one I went on was uniquely challenging and awe-inspiringly beautiful!
The hikes are lead by awesome guides who will push you and challenge you to do things you never thought possible! Here my wife and I are pictured with our guides for the week – Kimmy and Slade (more affectionately known by their Hollywood name – “Slimmy”). Romping all over the beautiful red rocks of the southern Utah canyons was an experience I will never forget!
Workouts: There are four workouts a day offered during your time at Fitness Ridge. The thing that I absolutely loved about the workouts was the variety. Ever done Zumba? There’s a class for that. Kickboxing? Yep – class for that. Strength circuits, cardio intervals, and even pool workouts? Yes, sure thing, and you betcha! Some of the other include X-fit (CrossFit-inspired workouts), pool (aerobics, strength, and open swim), aerobics, bootcamp, and even stretching (which feels amazingly good on day 2 when soreness is really starting to set in!). They last 45 minutes each and are an excellent opportunity to push yourself in ways you’d never tried before!
The classes are led by AMAZING trainers! These people hold a special place in my heart as I consider our love-hate relationship. It’s one thing to workout on your own and try to push yourself; it’s quite another to have someone encouraging you and cheering you on to “everything you’ve got”!!
And a final word about the workouts – don’t be scared or intimidated by trainers or others in the class. You go at your own pace and you push yourself as hard as you feel comfortable. Some people’s starting intensity was others’ finishing intensity. It’s understood that everyone there is at different levels of fitness. There’s no judging and no comparing – just supporting, encouraging, and cheering on to victory! I loved these incredible workouts and have incorporated what I learned there into my personal workout regime.
Food: I honestly had no idea eating healthy could taste so INCREDIBLE! You get three meals a day prepared exclusively by a renowned chef. The daily menu plan was anywhere from 1200 – 1800 calories with as many fruits and veggies as you could possibly handle. One thing that was especially relieving to me was that they are willing to alter your diet based on need. During my “check in” we talked about my weight lifting habits and daily caloric intake. They were happy to offer me larger protein portions so I didn’t compromise my lean muscle mass while I was there. And it’s incredible how far you can go on 1500 calories! I thought I might be starving while I was there but I don’t recall ever being hungry. I also don’t recall ever being “stuffed”. Contempt and full, yes; but overly satiated no. It was amazing to have all of this delicious food prepared for our amazing meals down at Fitness Ridge.
Classes: In my opinion the most valuable part of the Fitness Ridge experience. It’s one thing to go through the motions of diet and exercise, it’s quite another to be taught WHY the motions are effective. There are registered dietitians who taught classes about diet and nutrition. There were certified trainers who taught classes about working out and calories in/calories out (I cover these topics a lot in my 4-Week Get Fit eBook – check it out if you’re interested!). But in my opinion the most valuable classes were those that were led by motivational speakers and LCSW’s . In these special presentations we explored the WHY’s and HOW’s of your behavior that led to unhealthy consequences. The breakthroughs in these sessions were inspirational to be a part of. The education and inspiration received at Fitness Ridge in these classes will remain with me the rest of my life and I know I will be healthier and more active because of them.
And finally, two notes about down time – A) you really don’t get that much of it!! and B) this is a RESORT! The rooms are incredibly comfortable, hospitable, and clean. They have a full spa on site for massages, mani/pedis, waxing, brows, haircuts, facials, teeth whitening, and a lot of other amenities that, as a dude, I have never heard of before! My wife and I got massages one of the days we were down there and it was exquisite! I highly recommend taking some time to pamper yourself while you’re at the resort!
